Thirty-eight cyclists registered to race tonight and only one was smart enough to not start! With a chilly temperature of 9°C and northwesterlies gusting to 55km/h, why were we out there, completing 555 kilometers between us? Low air pressure might have attracted a few, while habit, a love of a challenge, a sense of adventure or outright curiousity might have drawn out others. Low air pressure might have helped two riders to break the 20 minute mark. Since there have now been three OTT events in 2012 with more than three (slightly - just four) of us doing all three, we can show an "Event Factor" (EvtFactor) for each of the three time trials. This essentially indicates how good the night was relative to the riders' performances on other nights in the series in the current year. Tonight currently scores high in this regard, but only because we haven't a good night yet! As the season proceeds and we and the weather get fitter, tonight's EvtFactor will decrease. There were two sub-20 minute times. Casey Roth, in his first appearance at the OTT series, was first in 19:37, while Douglas van den Ham was second in 19:53 (6 seconds slower than last week), and Kiernan Orange did 20:56 for third. If we apply a generalization of the British VTTA handicaps, Joel Katz, who did 21:12, would be first, followed by Glen Budgell (22:09 tonight) and then Casey and Doug. For the women, Bailin Xie (23:57) was fastest at 19 seconds off of her PB set last week, Veteran B rider Robyn Angeles was just 10 seconds slower with 24:07 and Christina Czaban was third with 26:11. Note that seven out of the twenty who had ridden an earlier OTT 15km TT improved relative to their previous 2012 OTT best, and Robyn Angeles was the most improved. Robyn mentioned that she used to do time trials back in the 1980s, with a best in the twenty-twos, quite a feat on the less aero-dynamic equipment of those days, so we will look forward to some great improvements in her times as she becomes more comfortable on her new equipment.

(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would gladly do the data entry, getting the results up within a few of hours of the event, as history shows that I did for the WTT series for the decade beginning in 1998, and for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
